Social commerce is the future of online shopping

Posted: 17 Dec 2021 07:15 AM PST

Social commerce is the next wave of online shopping and everything is set to lead the future of ecommerce. This new market is growing bigger and brighter than ever. Integrating e-commerce with social media, social commerce, is the future of online shopping. According to Statista, the Global Social Commerce Market Expected To Grow To Over $ 3 Trillion USD over the next eight years.

Social commerce is the last showcase. It offers the ability to create seamless shopping experiences for people right in the app while catching up with friends and family, consuming related content and learning about their favorite brands, products and services. To know, Social commerce is the use of social engagement to create business transactions. The result is a more engaging customer experience that eliminates friction and increases revenue.

Millennials and Gen Z have now become the dominant and majority share of consumers and will clearly be for years to come. Shopping through social media has simply become a natural organic extension of their daily routines, as these consumers are digital natives who grew up on social media. Therefore, social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and TIC Tac introduced stores as native extensions to their platforms to anticipate this growing trend. In fact, 27% of internet users worldwide rely on social media to find products to buy. (GWI, 2020). And over 55% of social media users in the United States aged 18 to 24 have made at least one purchase through social channels, followed by users aged 25 to 34. (Statistical, 2021). As the influence of these platforms grows on Millennials and Gen Z consumers, the importance of social media commerce will increase.

Social commerce encourages people to connect with a business through two-way communication. This not only allows customers to engage with your business, but it also gives them the ability to use social media as an effective customer service channel. The most effective and forward-thinking trend in social commerce is live shopping, while combining technological advancements in live streaming and social media channels with the familiar nostalgic concept of home shopping.

Direct shopping Where direct shopping, is rapidly being adopted by the world’s leading B2C brands to deliver personalized one-to-one and one-to-many video shopping between sellers and consumers. Live Shopping opens up a whole new world of possibilities for brands to connect with shoppers on an emotional level, quickly, to dramatically drive sales. Video shopping is almost like the experience of a mall, but takes place entirely on social media, with friends also being able to participate in a real social experience, including 360-degree product visualizations and on-time customer service. real with a virtual agent who offers useful information to guide buyers towards the purchase.

When the viewer joins a live shopping session, they can participate in ongoing comments on anything they see, so there is immediate interaction. The point is, when viewers watch live content at this time, they have an emotional reaction and that reaction is important for brands because audiences are more likely to buy from a brand that they have. an emotional connection. Simply put, live streaming with the virtual store gives shoppers the ability to interact with the virtual agent in real time and experience the products in a way that accelerates purchasing decisions while enabling two-way communication in time. real. For example, 70% of internet users in the United States who regularly watched influencer-led live feeds said they were likely to buy products recommended by influencers. (Insider Information, 2021)

Likewise, the new social commerce also incorporates the notion of personalized service via Live streaming. These virtual agents are like in-store product specialists, stylists or store clerks who can instantly answer questions, share the latest offers, or recommend additional products to the consumer.

With alluring popularity and ever growing user base, social media built into stores or social commerce platform is here to stay. Therefore, given the power and reach of shared community networks, businesses cannot afford to ignore them. Now, to keep up with the trend, businesses need to allocate an exclusive budget to meet their social commerce marketing strategies as they generate massive sales through their huge daily and monthly active users. Likewise, the platforms are also expected to respond to the trend to seize existing and future social commerce opportunities by adding new products and product updates.

Gigamon emphasizes the importance of network optimization

Posted: 16 Dec 2021 03:56 PM PST

A network is more than the sum of its parts; it’s a critical type of infrastructure that facilitates everything from cross-office hardware solutions (like sharing a wireless printer) to the very existence of the Internet, comprising hundreds of millions of smaller networks, all sharing information and resources.

Simply put, networks are an essential part of the way we do business. As such, optimizing network performance should be a major goal for any modern business.

Network optimization is an umbrella term that refers to a range of tools, strategies, and best practices for monitoring, managing, and improving network performance.

In today’s dynamic and highly competitive business environment, it is not enough for essential networks to function properly. As we move into the digital age, the world increasingly depends on reliable, fast, secure, available and available 24/7 data transfer.

Unfortunately, outdated or undersized hardware or suboptimal software can limit available bandwidth and introduce increased latency. Obsolete or underutilized network security options can affect performance and leave systems unprotected.

Sudden power surges or spikes in traffic can overwhelm critical network functions and slow response times. The list goes on and on, potentially creating hundreds of editing issues that can degrade the end user experience.

The main goal of network optimization is to ensure the best possible network design and performance at the lowest cost structure. The network should promote increased productivity and ease of use, and enable effective and efficient data exchange. This is achieved by managing network latency, traffic volume, network bandwidth, and traffic direction.

Network optimization can only occur after the current state has been fully assessed. However, to get a clear picture of network performance within an organization, a significant number of parameters and components are involved. Here are five essential factors to consider:

Latency

Latency describes the time it takes for data to travel between two locations (such as between two computers on a network), with lower latency indicating a faster, more responsive network. This delay in data transmission can be as little as a few milliseconds at each step of the journey, but when combined, it can add to a noticeable network lag.

Although the absolute upper limit of data transmission speed is the speed of light, some limiting factors, such as the inherent qualities of WAN routers or fiber optic cables, will always introduce some latency. Other causes can include increased data payloads, duplicate packet retransmission, the wide range of online security tools, proxies, switches, firewalls and other network elements scanning and adding to network traffic and retrieving stored data.

Availablity

Availability is a measure of how often relevant network hardware and software is functioning properly. The flip side is downtime, where the systems in question are not performing to desired specifications. Optimal uptime means that no hardware or software downtime negatively impacts network performance.

Network uptime can be calculated by dividing uptime by the total time over any period, with the most obvious goal being 100% uptime and 0% downtime. That said, it’s not uncommon for complex systems like networks to experience issues from time to time, so 100% uptime isn’t something a business is likely to achieve.

On the other hand, the pursuit of this high standard is an essential aspect of network optimization. Achieving “five nines” (99.999%) or better for uptime is paramount.

Packet loss

A network packet is a small segment of data that can be transmitted from one point to another within a network. Complete messages, files, or other types of information are broken down into packets which are then sent individually and recombined to reconstruct the original file at the destination. If a packet does not arrive intact, the origin will only need to resend the lost packet, instead of resending the entire file.

Although occasional packet loss is rarely a concern, a large number of lost packets can disrupt important business functions and can be an indication of larger network issues. Packet loss is quantifiable by monitoring the traffic at both ends of the data transmission and then comparing the number of packets sent to the number of packets received.

Network jitter

Jitter describes the degree of inconsistency in latency across the network, while latency measures the time it takes for data to reach its destination and eventually make a round trip. When the delays between data packets are inconsistent, it can affect a network’s ability to provide real-time communication, and especially in both directions. This can create problems with video conferencing, IP security cameras, VoIP phone systems, etc.

Network jitter is symptomatic of network congestion, lack of prioritization of packet delivery, outdated hardware, and overloaded network equipment. Other causes may include a poor internet connection or the use of inferior wireless networks.

Since network jitter can lead to packet loss, dropped connections, network congestion, and poor user experience, especially audio, voice, and video streams, this is an important consideration for the network optimization.

Use

Typically, anytime a component in the network is over 70% utilized, slowdowns occur due to packet buffering, head-of-line switch port blocking issues, and downtime. overloading their backplane. If the component is used heavily for long periods of time, the slowdowns turn into serious delays.

Internet connection can become a bottleneck when the number of concurrent interactions involving ISP-based applications and services exceeds what the service allows. Usage metering provides a big picture of your network to determine which sections are seeing what amounts of traffic and at what times peak traffic is most likely to occur.

Properly measured, usage can give you insight into which networks are carrying the most load, where the loads are coming from, and whether usage is too high in certain areas.

In terms of a measure, traffic usage can be represented as a ratio of current network traffic to the peak amounts that networks are designed to carry, represented as a percentage.

Advantages

Managed effectively, network optimization is able to help organizations build more effective and efficient internal and external networks. This has a number of distinct advantages, including the following:

Increased network throughput

Network optimization removes the barriers that stand in the way of optimal data transmission speeds. This means lower latency and jitter, faster response times, and a more connected IT ecosystem – and therefore, increased throughput.

Increased employee productivity

Latency, packet loss, and internal network downtime prevent employees from accessing and using critical tools and information when and how they need it most. Network optimization keeps data flowing smoothly, so your staff don’t have to sit idly by while your network catches up.

Improved analysis and security

An important part of network analysis and security is traffic visibility. By closely monitoring the traffic flowing through the network, where it is going and what it is doing, users have the advantage of being able to identify and respond to threats faster, and to track various critical metrics, including those described above.

Armed with this insight, organizations using Network Performance Monitoring and Diagnostics (NPMD), Application Performance Monitoring (APM), and security tools can analyze captured data and turn it into valuable and actionable information.

These tools can be further enhanced with advanced metadata, including application layer attributes, to solve more advanced use cases. Network analysis can also be used in predictive modeling, providing accurate predictions of future network usage.

Client experience

Customer-centric networks also benefit from network optimization, with faster and more available services. When customers take advantage of all the features without having to wait longer than expected, they’re more likely to want to continue doing business with your business.

Network performance

Obviously, the overall goal of network optimization is to optimize the functioning of the network. This means better performance at all levels and improved returns from all services and systems that rely on network performance.

Efficient network optimization

Gigamon is the leader in hybrid cloud network visibility solutions and a critical partner in enabling efficient network optimization. Gigamon offers the power to put a network and all network traffic under a microscope.

The technology can acquire all relevant workload traffic and, using NPMD, APM, and security tools, identify which network elements and applications are consuming the most bandwidth or performing the most compromised. New Mexico regulators deny utility cut-off from coal-fired plant

Posted: 16 Dec 2021 02:29 PM PST

SANTA FE, NM (AP) – Regulators in New Mexico have rejected a request by the state’s largest electricity supplier to divest itself of one of the Southwest’s last remaining coal-fired power plants by transferring its shares to a Navajo energy company.

The New Mexico Public Regulatory Commission on Wednesday voted unanimously to reject the plan, saying the New Mexico Public Service Co. had not specified how the lost power would be replaced.

Commissioners were also concerned about the investments that the utility known as PNM sought to recoup through bonds that would be repaid by customers over a 25-year period.

The utility could appeal the decision or it could come back to the commission with more information.

The move marked the commission’s second major rejection of the PNM in recent weeks. Regulators have also rejected a proposed multibillion-dollar acquisition of PNM by global energy giant Iberdrola and its U.S. subsidiary, Connecticut-based Avangrid.

Supporters of PNM’s exit from the coal-fired Four Corners Power Plant had argued that the move would result in savings for customers, reduce emissions from the power company’s portfolio and strengthen the nation’s position. Navajo when it comes to determining the future of the plant.

Environmentalists had criticized the proposed transfer, suggesting it would prevent an early shutdown. However, the majority owner of the plant – Arizona Public Service Co. – has shown no willingness to end its operations before 2031, as this could affect the reliability of the network of this public service.

The commission deliberated on the power plant issue behind closed doors for hours. Chairman Stephen Fischmann said after Wednesday’s vote that the panel did not have the information it needed to make a good decision and the committee was open to monitoring the PNM with details.

PNM officials called the vote baffling, saying that after months of litigation, the result created uncertainty about the regulatory environment in New Mexico and made the company’s transition to more renewable energy more difficult.

PNM President and CEO Pat Vincent-Collawn highlighted New Mexico’s energy transition law, saying the commission ignored the law’s requirements to balance shareholder responsibility with customer savings. , economic aid and environmental benefits.

“We will need to carefully review the order dismissing the abandonment to determine next steps, including a possible appeal to the New Mexico Supreme Court,” she said in a statement.

Under the proposal, Navajo Transitional Energy Co., known as NTEC, would have taken over PNM’s stake in Four Corners, becoming the second largest owner of shares in the plant. PNM shareholders have reportedly paid NTEC $ 75 million to meet its obligations under a coal supply agreement.

By transferring his shares, PNM could have left Four Corners about seven years before his previously scheduled departure and would have been closer to meeting New Mexico’s renewable energy and emissions mandates. The law on energy transition requires that public services be carbon-free by 2045.

Located on tribal lands, the Four Corners factory has been a huge economic driver for the Navajo Nation for decades. The factory and the nearby mine that powers it provide hundreds of jobs for tribal members, and operations account for nearly a quarter of the Navajo Nation’s general fund annual revenue.

Navajo President Jonathan Nez and other tribal leaders have spoken out in favor of the PNM plan.

"As we determine how to make the transition to a post-coal economy, we continue to rely on these jobs and income for the foreseeable future," Nez said. "It won’t be an easy task. “

dnata digitizes goods handling with Descartes Core’s Bluetooth Low Energy real-time tracking solution

Posted: 16 Dec 2021 08:22 AM PST

ATLANTA, December 15, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Descartes Systems Group, a global leader in uniting logistics-intensive businesses in commerce, has announced that dnata, one of the world’s largest airline service providers, Descartes CORE BLE uses real-time tracking solution to help manage its mobile assets for cargo handling at airports. By digitizing the tracking process, the solution gives dnata greater visibility of assets to enable more efficient movement of air cargo through airports.

“Airports have very dynamic and fast-paced operations and being able to effectively serve our airline and freight forwarder customers requires us to ensure that we know the location of trolleys and other air cargo assets at all times,” said Kevin Walsh, Operational Support Manager. services at DNAT. "The Descartes CORE BLE solution has given us real-time location visibility, allowing us to better maximize the use of assets and minimize their loss of view, which can be a challenge at the world’s largest airports. As part of our digitization strategy, we have also been able to successfully launch a real-time shipment tracking pilot project and are ready to offer it as a service.

Descartes CORE BLE real-time tracking solution combines Descartes CORE BLE beacons that are applied to mobile assets and readers that capture the movement of assets. The readers use mesh network technology to improve coverage resiliency and, through the use of solar power, can be placed throughout an airport as they do not need a power source. As part of the Descartes CORE BLE network, a service of the Descartes global logistics network, readers are available via Descartes open network initiative for aerial monitoring, which also supports non-Descartes tags. Tracking data helps ground handlers better understand the location of cargo handling assets, better match capacity with asset inventory, and reduce costs associated with misplaced equipment or the need to lease additional assets.

Thanks to the Descartes solution, air shipments bundled into a single ULD container or pallet can also be tracked in real time to help ground handling service customers, such as air carriers and freight forwarders, automate the visibility of the location of the freight. In addition to the location of the shipment, other sensor-based information such as precise temperature, movement and humidity can be monitored.

"With the high shipment volumes the industry is experiencing, making the most of existing air cargo handling assets is critical to keeping cargo moving," said Glenn Palanacki, vice president of industrial strategy at Descartes. "We are excited to provide dnata with real-time visibility into assets to help better control those assets and better serve our customers. “

Huawei’s greater involvement in surveillance, report says

Posted: 15 Dec 2021 03:35 PM PST

Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has always claimed it is not actively partnering with the Chinese government to collect intelligence on individuals in China, but a report from The Washington Post This week, showing that the company appears to have marketed surveillance technology to government customers challenges the company’s claims.

The report comes as much of the big company’s operations remain severely restricted by sanctions imposed by the United States under former President Donald Trump, which have been renewed, and in some cases strengthened, by President Joe Biden. .

The newspaper obtained more than 100 PowerPoint presentations which were briefly posted on a public page of the company’s website. The mine of documents suggests the company was marketing various surveillance-related services, including voice recognition technology, location tracking, and facial recognition-based area surveillance.

The presentations say the company was also marketing systems to monitor prisons, such as those in which China currently holds countless numbers of Uyghurs in western Xinjiang province. The system tracked inmates’ work productivity, as well as their time spent in re-education classes and data that might indicate the effectiveness of those classes.

Additionally, the documents appeared to market workplace monitoring tools, intended to monitor employee performance in the workplace and to spot workers who spend time resting or using personal electronic devices on the job. clock.

denial of huawei

In a statement provided to VOA, a spokesperson for Huawei said: "Huawei has no knowledge of the projects mentioned in The Washington Post report.”

He continued, "Like all other major service providers, Huawei provides cloud platform services that meet common industry standards. Huawei does not develop or sell systems targeting a specific group of people and we require our partners to comply with all applicable laws, regulations and business ethics. Protecting privacy is our top priority and we require all parts of our business to comply with all applicable laws and regulations in the countries and regions where we operate.

the To post, in his article, noted that the company’s official watermark appeared on the pages of the PowerPoint presentation, and that several included a page that said "Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. Copyright.

FILE – Mobile phone masts can be seen in front of Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London, January 28, 2020. Britain is among the countries which, for security reasons, have started to withdraw Huawei equipment which already had been installed.

Electronic security experts said the revelation of PowerPoint presentations linking Huawei to state security was not surprising, despite the company’s denials.

"Huawei has been closely tied to the security services from the start," Jim Lewis, senior vice president and director of the strategic technologies program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told VOA.

Lewis said warnings about the company have come from US officials since George W. Bush was president, but had only been taken seriously in recent years when China has become more aggressive in asserting itself on the world stage. .

"What has changed is the audience," Lewis said. Between China and [Chinese President] Xi Jinping’s behavior, people are willing to hear about the issues with Huawei in a way that they were not before.

Punitive sanctions

The United States has been warning for several years that Huawei poses a security risk to the United States and its allies. Despite the company’s claims to the contrary, US officials believe the company has close ties to Chinese state security agencies and that its telecommunications products could be used to gather information or disrupt the activities of rivals. Chinese.

Officials also report a law in China that requires private companies to cooperate with government agencies in collecting data deemed important to state security.

In 2019 and 2020, the United States began to act aggressively against Huawei on several fronts.

The Trump administration has fought against the company’s efforts to commercialize the network equipment needed to deploy 5G wireless technology. 5G is the next generation of mobile connectivity and is expected to dramatically improve the ability of internet-connected devices to communicate, facilitating everything from autonomous vehicles to remote surgery.

The United States has said, among other things, that it will stop sharing intelligence with allies that allow Huawei to provide critical pieces of their country’s telecommunications infrastructure, arguing the company poses too great a risk for it. Security.

As a result, a number of countries have excluded the company’s technology from their 5G systems and others, including Britain, have started the costly process of removing Huawei equipment that had already been installed.

smartphone decline

Until recently, Huawei was one of the biggest sellers of smartphones in the world and almost completely dominated the Chinese market. However, other sanctions imposed on the company seriously affected this company.

The United States has banned companies from licensing or selling the company’s technology essential to some of its products. This included Google, which said in 2019 that it would no longer license its Android operating system – the world’s most popular – for use in new phones made by the company.

Intel and Qualcomm, two big chipmakers, have been banned from selling their most advanced technology to Huawei. The ban extended to contract chipmakers like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp., the world’s largest.

The result has been a drastic drop in sales of Huawei smartphones, both globally and in China.

"The heart of their device business was smartphones, and their market share has been steadily declining," Ryan Reith, vice president of International Data Corporation, told VOA.

Reith said the recovery outlook did not look good for the company’s smartphone business.

"We don’t see any way for the brand itself to turn around," he said. "So he’s probably on the verge of disappearing. “

Barry Dark

Legility, the Nashville area legal services firm founded as Counsel on Call, was acquired by the international eDiscovery, legal consultancy, document review and risk management firm Consilio.

Legility was founded in 2000 primarily as a provider of short and long term contract lawyers to law firms and corporations, but has since, through acquisitions and expansions, started offering more general legal services like Consilio, who is based in Washington, DC

The transaction, the terms of which were not disclosed, has been completed. It will take “several quarters” for the two companies to align their systems and processes, according to a statement.

In 2020, Legility merged with Inventus, a Chicago-based company, an agreement that allowed the Nashville-area company to go global. The company lists one office in Brentwood and two in Nashville, in addition to several across the country and in Europe.

"The combination with Consilio is of great benefit to both our customers and our team," Legility CEO Barry Dark said in the statement. "The extended team will be part of a larger community of experts and will have increased resources and capabilities to meet client challenges in the areas of information governance, eDiscovery and legal operations. An important consideration for Legility was the shared perspective on market direction, and we are particularly interested in jointly expanding what we can provide to clients in legal and compliance areas other than eDiscovery.

IMS and SES to Extend Internet Connectivity to Underserved Colombian Communities with O3b mPOWER | News

Posted: 14 Dec 2021 11:50 PM PST

LUXEMBOURG – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Dec.15 2021–

SES’s satellite link services will enable Colombia’s leading fiber optic network service provider Integra Multisolutions (IMS) to expand and improve fiber-type connectivity for Colombian municipalities with less than 100,000 residents located outside of Colombia. reach of land-based infrastructure, SES announced today. The new service will begin on SES’s medium earth orbit (MEO) O3b constellation and later migrate to SES’s next-generation MEO, O3b mPOWER, in 2022 when the service expands to other cities.

The first site to be connected will be Puerto Leguizamo, a municipality located in the department of Putumayo in the southern border region of the country. SES and IMS will continue to provide services to other sparsely populated cities across Colombia that experience poor or inconsistent connectivity services.

SES’s mPOWERED trunk service will equip IMS to enable local Internet service providers to serve a combination of corporate, residential, MNO and civilian government projects. IMS is one of the first companies in Latin America to subscribe to the O3b mPOWER system, which can deliver low-latency, high-speed, non-competitive services from tens of megabits to several gigabits per second at a single site.

According to the Colombian Ministry of Telecommunications, fixed broadband subscriptions in the country reached 8.22 million in 2021, which corresponds to 16.10 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants. However, the National Directorate of Administration and Statistics (Dane) unveiled at the beginning of the year the results of the Survey on Information and Communication Technologies in Households (ENTIC Hogares) showing that only 56 , 5% of the households surveyed have an Internet connection. The survey identified a significant difference between households in major cities, where 66.6% have Internet access, and those in rural and dispersed areas, where only 23.9% of households have it. The department of Putumayo is one of the regions having difficulty accessing reliable connectivity services.

“By working with SES, we are able to quickly and cost-effectively extend our network to underserved and hard-to-reach areas, which helps to bridge the digital divide for these communities,” said Juan Carlos Hernandez Mendoza , CEO of IMS Group. "Our goal is to provide our end users with the best quality of service throughout Colombia, which means access to high performance services anytime, anywhere. The capabilities of O3b MEO’s proven fleet, along with the scalability and flexibility of future O3b mPOWER services, combined with the expertise of SES’s satellite network and IMS fiber optic networks, allow us to achieve exactly this. goal.

"Our multi-orbital satellite solutions have provided reliable connectivity services throughout Colombia for almost 10 years," said Omar Trujillo, vice president of fixed data sales for the Americas at SES. "We are delighted to partner with IMS to expand terrestrial networks with the revolutionary capabilities of the O3b mPOWER constellation and provide fiber-like Internet access to Colombians wherever they live. “
