Aryaka launches SASE, managed SD-WAN offers

Network as a service company Aryaka Networks Inc. has added a mid-size enterprise tier to its managed software-defined WAN and introduced security services based on a secure access service edge architecture.

This week, Aryaka showcased the products and a new global L3 network called FlexCore. Aryaka calls SASE Prime services, while the other product adds an EZ tier for small businesses to the company’s SmartConnect SD-WAN. Prime is Aryaka’s first SASE product.

Prime adds to Aryaka’s managed SD-WAN security features, including a secure web gateway, web filtering, and cloud-based firewall. SASE services only work on SmartConnect EZ. The company plans to eventually add Prime to SmartConnect Pro.

Aryaka built Prime on technology from the May acquisition of Secucloud, a German cloud-based SASE platform provider. Aryaka plans to make Prime generally available in April.

The new EZ SmartConnect runs on the more economical L3 FlexCore. The company’s enterprise version, renamed Pro, continues to operate on the company’s best performing L2 network. Aryaka plans to make EZ available at the end of the first quarter of 2022.

Aryaka has not released pricing for SmartConnect EZ or Prime.

The global L3 FlexCore network complements Aryaka’s existing L2 service. Because FlexCore works on Layer 3 of the OSI model – which networks through routing – instead of Layer 2 – which networks through code – it is more flexible, less expensive and less efficient than L2 service, said Aryaka CMO Shashi Kiran.

In general, mid-sized businesses have less performance-demanding networking needs and a smaller IT budget than most of Aryaka’s large enterprise customers, Kiran said.

According to Zeus Kerravala, founder of ZK Research, more midsize businesses have had to look to network-as-a-service companies like Aryaka to support the higher number of employees working from home during the pandemic.

With so many people working from home, a midsize business that once had a small network “now has a big network,” Kerravala said. Therefore, he said he expects businesses that are smaller than enterprises to sign up for SD-WAN and SASE managed services.

Aryaka also announced the release of AppAssure, a software capability that provides greater visibility and observability to more than 3,500 software applications as a service. The service is free for existing customers and will generally be available in January.

Criminal Justice Students Host Youth Justice Networking Event

As part of a service-learning course, students hosted a networking event that brought together local leaders and youth justice professionals, allowing students to learn more about the field and to make meaningful connections with those who share their passion for youth justice.

The event allowed students to network and learn from local youth justice professionals.

Maddy Mandeville ’22 is dedicated to helping others. A graduate in criminal justice, she has a particular interest in youth justice and believes that adults can have a significant impact on the lives of children.

Mandeville, who will be accepting his degree as part of the University’s winter return, and his classmates from his service-learning course “Exploring Delinquency” recently shared their passion for youth justice with the university community. The class hosted an on-campus networking event that allowed students to connect with local leaders and professionals in the youth justice field.

"This was important because few job openings are advertised in the juvenile justice field," Mandeville said. "It was a good way for the students to see what their options were. ”

The event brought together professionals and experts from diverse backgrounds and fields of expertise, including Richard Colangelo, Jr., Attorney General and Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at the University; Destiny Tolliver, pediatrician and postdoctoral fellow in the National Clinical Academic Program at Yale; and Lorenzo Boyd, Ph.D., Stewart professor of criminal justice and community policing at the University.

Veratisha Morey ’13, Correctional Advisor for the Connecticut Corrections Department to Bridgeport Correctional Center and a self-published author and editor, returned to her alma mater to be part of the event. She believes in the importance of education, saying that it is essential in helping children succeed and that it has been important in her own life.

“Minors are not short adults,” said Morey, who also served as a juvenile detention officer for the Connecticut Court Support Services Division and as a social worker and investigator for the Department of Children and Families. "You can’t treat them the same as adults. Children need role models. Children in the juvenile justice system need help, and we have to be the help they need. What I learned in my classes at New Haven University makes sense and I apply what I learned every day in my career.

Organized by the "Exploring Delinquency" course, the Tow Youth Justice Institute and the Connecticut Justice Alliance, the event was planned by the seven students who took the course.

"For me, it’s about student empowerment," said Danielle Cooper, Ph.D., CPP, associate professor and research director for the Tow Youth Justice Institute and the student instructor. "This event was a direct student effort, it was about engaged service learning. This was what the students wanted to do, and it was their last public project and a great way to explore delinquency.

Mandeville, the future criminal justice graduate, helped lead the roundtable. She enjoyed being a part of the event and says this service learning course was particularly impactful.

"Dr. Cooper is one of my favorite teachers," she said. "She dives into the program and she uses real stories. It was great to host this event. You can’t necessarily change it. an adult, but you can have an impact on a child’s life.

Myrtle Beach rescue companies are already recruiting for next season

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The beach might not be on your mind yet, but Lack’s Beach Service is already working on hiring dozens of lifeguards to line the Myrtle Beach coast next year.

The lifeguard company is working hard to recruit workers in the United States and overseas after a difficult year finding help.

"We’re going to college," said Lack CEO Weslyn Lack Chickering. "We go to career fairs. We went to swim competitions. We make flyers. We set up tables in student centers. We are doing everything we can to reach these students.

Lack Chickering said she hopes to hire more than 40 single-duty lifeguards for next season. This is in addition to the beach attendants. She said Lack’s was moving away from dual role rescuers.

"We are really focusing this summer on recruiting lifeguards to focus only on the water and then our beach attendants to be behind (with) all the equipment," she said.

She hopes to find more help from J-1 students this year after the restrictions impacted 2021.

"We’ve set our target at 50 to 60 J-1 students, if we get more than that it’s wonderful," said Lack Chickering. “But we also really complement with American students to make sure we get the coverage we need.”

John’s Beach Service is also recruiting for the 2022 season.

The city’s beach advisory committee is due to meet next week and one of the agenda items includes a discussion of a new franchise agreement for beach services.

Five things the military learned about its network during the Convergence 21 project

The experiment leveraged LEO and MEO capabilities while combining military and commercial SATCOM to move data across the battlefield.

While bandwidth virtualization is at a low tech readiness level, Rey said the military research and development community is working hard to get it to mature faster.

He said these SATCOM capabilities should be described as resilient rather than protected.

“I just didn’t want the top management to think that you were setting up a protected SATCOM and nothing was going to happen to them in terms of jamming or any other ability that opponents might have there,” he said. he stated, adding that he is resilient. .

While Project Convergence was primarily focused on brigades and below, the Army is shifting to a paradigm in which division will be the primary unit of action. This means that it will require higher capabilities at the brigade level.

Although they focused on the brigade, when a variety of sensors and autonomous systems were introduced by the division, they expanded the network more than they expected, Rey said.

“At the same time, the fact that the division is not able to see everything that is going on from the BCT level and below, made us realize that the division must have a certain level of ability when it comes to the [integrated tactical network],” he said.

Now the Army is re-evaluating how it can equip the division with capabilities to support the integrated tactical network.

The fifth point to remember from the Convergence project was the need for a common operational image. This year’s event included all services for the first time.

The Army has built the Command Post Computing Environment, a web-based system that will consolidate current mission systems and programs into a single user interface.

During Project Convergence, Rey said they were able to bring the Navy and Marine Corps into the CPCE to provide a common operational picture.
